Yes — prepared food and restaurant meals are taxable at the full 6.97% combined rate.

Grocery Food

Exempt from sales tax. Grocery food is exempt from state sales tax. Local taxes of 2% still apply to groceries.

Alcohol

Subject to sales tax plus separate excise taxes. NC is a control state for spirits (sold through ABC stores).
